The florist’s side of the same genus as St John’s wort: a shrub grown for its clusters of glossy berries, in red, pink, peach, cream and green. The berries hold up well in water, which is why they turn up in so many arrangements.

Meaning

Protection. In old European custom, sprigs of St John’s wort were hung over the door on Midsummer’s Eve to keep bad luck outside.
